The small town of Hawkthorne, nestled in the heart of the countryside, is known for its picturesque landscapes and tight-knit community. However, beneath its serene surface lies a chilling reality: a series of unresolved missing persons cases that have haunted the town for decades. Each disappearance tells a story of loss, fear, and unanswered questions. In this blog post, we will explore the most notable cases, the impact on the community, and the ongoing efforts to uncover the truth behind these mysteries.

The quiet villages surrounding Ashford have always carried stories that locals refuse to speak about after dark. Missing livestock. Strange lights between the trees. People returning home different than they were before.
Most dismiss these stories as rural superstition.
But over the last thirty years, a pattern has emerged.
A series of disappearances connected by the same details:
isolated woodland areas
sudden behavioural changes
memory distortion
Strange Symbols
and eyewitness reports describing individuals who “did not feel human anymore.”
Locals have given these encounters a name:
The Borrowed One.
RECORDED INCIDENTS
THE HOLLOWAY CASE (1994)
The first widely documented incident occurred in October 1994, when 17-year-old Daniel Holloway disappeared during a camping trip in the Kent countryside.
Three days later, Daniel returned home barefoot and visibly disoriented.
According to witness statements from family members, he:
failed to recognise close relatives
repeatedly referred to himself in third person
stood motionless outside homes during the night
and appeared unable to blink normally
Two weeks later, Daniel vanished again.
He has never been found.
THE HARTWELL FOOTAGE (2003)
In 2003, local videographer Mia Hartwell uploaded distorted footage recovered from an abandoned camcorder discovered near Blackwood Trail.
The recording showed:
unidentified figures standing between trees
audio distortions resembling human speech
and a pale figure staring directly into the camera for several uninterrupted minutes
Hours after uploading the footage online, Mia disappeared.
The original files were later removed without explanation.
Fragments of the recovered tape continue circulating online.
THE RIVERS INCIDENT (2018)
Emergency services responded to reports of a man standing in the middle of the A28 motorway during severe rainfall.
Witnesses identified the individual as Thomas Rivers, who had previously been reported missing for six days.
Bodycam footage from responding officers was later sealed from public release.
One officer later stated:
“He looked exactly like Thomas… until he smiled.”
Thomas Rivers disappeared from hospital custody later that night.
His whereabouts remain unknown.
KNOWN PATTERNS
Investigators and independent researchers have identified recurring details across multiple incidents:
Subjects disappear near woodland areas
Victims often return briefly before vanishing again
Behaviour becomes increasingly unnatural
Witnesses report facial expressions appearing “wrong”
Electronic interference occurs near affected individuals
Animals display extreme distress in their presence
Several reports also reference individuals touching their own faces repeatedly “as if learning how to wear them.”
THE BORROWED ONE
No official explanation has ever been given for the incidents.
Online communities investigating the disappearances believe “The Borrowed One” is not a person, but an entity capable of imitating human behaviour after exposure to isolated victims.
Accounts differ, but nearly all descriptions include:
elongated movements
delayed emotional reactions
distorted speech patterns
and prolonged, unnatural smiling
Some witnesses claim:
“It borrows people after they disappear.”
ACTIVE INVESTIGATION STATUS
The disappearances connected to The Borrowed One remain unresolved.
Authorities continue to discourage trespassing near:
Blackwood Trail
Holloway Forest
and the abandoned service routes surrounding Ashford
Residents are advised to report:
unidentified individuals in restricted woodland
missing time incidents
or persons displaying severe behavioural irregularities
FINAL NOTICE
If someone returns behaving differently after disappearing:
Do not isolate yourself with them.
Do not follow them into wooded areas.
And if they ask you to come with them
DO NOT ANSWER.
Because once it learns your face,
it does not stop watching.
